The dedication of our Boardwalk, named Schisler’s Crossing, marked the completion of our Founder’s Legacy Campaign. It spans 610 feet over the wetlands, connecting our campus to our Nature Trail. Guests and families will experience solace, peace and a renewed sense of well-being as they enjoy the many benefits of being in nature while accessing the fully handicap accessible boardwalk.

2019

Hospice Renovation Campaign completed! Updated plumbing, furnishings, flooring, lighting and paint enhanced the design of our Inpatient facility. Our renovated dining and family area is the perfect spot to host a birthday party for a hospice guest. The “home-away-from-home” atmosphere complements the compassionate care given by our exceptional clinical staff.

The dedication of Byron & Jim’s Place and Hope Suites marked the creation of a space we call the “House of Christ-Centered Hospitality.” Here, we offer rooms and a refuge for families navigating the challenges of caregiving and end-of-life care with grace and support.

2014

Byron & Jim’s Place and Hope Suites were groundbreaking projects, designed to expand our services for Senior Care, WeCare Respite, and hospice family housing. These homes reflect our mission to offer a Christ-centered space where families can stay together during life’s most vulnerable moments.

2012

With the dedication of the Woodland Nature Conservancy and Walking Trails, we provided a tranquil outdoor space for families and guests. These five acres of natural beauty offer a place of reflection and peace, complementing the compassionate care provided within the hospice.

2007

Our ministry expanded to include senior adults by establishing DayBreak, a day program created to provide seniors with meaningful fellowship, social activities, and a sense of community. DayBreak has since become a hub where seniors enjoy companionship and care.

2002

The Collins Respite Center at Hope House was dedicated to honor Jimmy and Oleta Collins, longtime friends and supporters of Southwest Christian Care. Their generosity helped establish a space that continues to provide care for our children with different abilities.

Dedication of Hope House’s “Cathy Children’s Garden and Play Area,” named in honor of faith supporters Truett and Jeannette Cathy.

2001

Ground was broken for the Hope House Children’s Respite Center, a state-of-the-art facility specifically serving children with different abilities. This center would go on to provide invaluable support to families in need of respite while enriching the lives of the children we care for.

1996

With the opening of Hope House, we began serving children with different abilities through our children’s respite program. Families received the care and support they needed, knowing their children were in a loving, nurturing environment that focused on each child’s unique abilities.

1994

The “Garden of Hope” was created as a peaceful retreat on the hospice grounds. This garden offers patients and families a quiet space to reflect, find comfort, and enjoy the beauty of nature during their journey of healing and farewell.

1993

Our first Benefit Dinner introduced the Servant Spirit Award, honoring Dr. James W. Dyer, Jr., whose passion for this ministry helped make it a reality. The event underscored the commitment to offering families no-cost care, lightening the financial burden when it’s most needed.

1987

In 1987, the first inpatient hospice facility in Georgia was built on fourteen serene acres in Union City, creating a peaceful refuge for families during life’s most challenging moments. Now operating as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, Southwest Christian Care is led by a committed Board of Directors, ensuring that every guest receives care at no cost, delivered with the same compassion and dedication that started it all.

1986

Breaking ground for the Southwest Christian Hospice marked a milestone, becoming the Southeast’s first inpatient hospice. The vision to create a sanctuary for those needing end-of-life care started to take shape, driven by a deep commitment to love, compassion, and faith.

1983

Our vision for a caring hospice ministry began in 1983, as a small team of dedicated staff and volunteers provided hospice care from a Sunday School classroom at Southwest Christian Church in East Point, Georgia. What started as a modest effort grew into something that touched countless lives, laying the foundation for Southwest Christian Care’s enduring mission of providing comfort and peace to our guests.

Our Mission

Southwest Christian Care is a ministry dedicated to providing the highest quality care and support for terminally ill patients, children with special needs, and senior adults, all supported by a spiritual and grief recovery care team.

Our Purpose

Our purpose is to provide compassionate hospice care, refreshing respite care and educational opportunities for medically fragile children and their families, enriching activities for seniors with varying degrees of memory loss or socialization needs, and individualized and group grief recovery care for those who have lost loved ones or whose life circumstances present emotional challenges.

At Southwest Christian Care, we’re a family of caregivers, volunteers, and supporters committed to providing effective, compassionate, high-quality, no-cost care to those in need. Since our ministry’s inception in 1983, we have grown to serve children with different abilities, seniors seeking fellowship, and families facing end-of-life challenges, offering comfort, love, and hope. Guided by our Christian values, we provide holistic care that nurtures the body, mind, spirit, and soul. Every guest receives personalized attention in a warm, welcoming environment, ensuring that families can focus on spending precious time together without financial burdens. Our mission is to serve with grace, dignity, and a heart full of love.
