28 Years of Caring Southwest Christian Hospice has been serving the community for twenty-seven years, providing quality hospice care for terminally ill patients at no cost to the patients or their families. The dream began to unfold in 1983 when a small staff and loving volunteers began providing hospice homecare from a Sunday School classroom at Southwest Christian Church in East Point, Georgia. The current hospice facility was built in 1987 and is located on seven beautifully-landscaped acres in Union City. What is Hospice Care? The word hospice describes a unique concept of care that was developed to help patients and their families deal with life-threatening illness. English in origin, the hospice philosophy has become the basis worldwide for specialized healthcare programs that focus on the unique needs of terminally ill patients and their families. What Hospice Services Are Offered? Each hospice patient/ family has special needs and requirements; therefore each care program is unique. For some patients, homecare may be preferable whereas for others, center-based care may be more appropriate. Individual services may include: Regular nursing visits Who Can Receive These Services?
